Lost Lake, La

This is the Louisiana marshes south of Houma, near Lost Lake. I went duck hunting near here when I first moved to Louisiana. It's an extremely beautiful area. The floating plants are a non native species that has taken over. They were transferred years ago by ocean tankers dumping bilge water.

This is oil on canvas. I had two canvases the same size so I built a framing rig to join them together and painted them as one.

UPDATE 7/6/18: I gave the right painting away to my employer in Louisana. Then I had the left one cropped and reframed.

Louie Armstrong

I drew this picture of Louie Armstrong when I was 16. I gave it to my grandfather, John Wesley Ashworth, Sr. after finishing it. He was extremely proud of it and hung it in his den. He passed away two years ago at age 97 and I got it back. I've always loved his expression. This was done in Pastel from an album cover. I must not have had an eraser, notice the white blotches near his ear and forehead. I remember I slipped and got color where I didn't want it and used the white to mask it. Live and learn.
